Name
Mass-scale red cell genotyping: From donor testing to historical information in the blood supply chain
Description

Alloimmunization to minor red cell antigens results in risk to chronic transfusion recipients. Antigen matching provides additional safety for several clinical situations and a growing number of patients benefit from avoidance of alloimmunization. Providing such red cell products to the hospital creates significant challenges from the maintenance of active donors in the blood establishment computer systems to the rapid hospital access for patient care. This session will summarize Versiti blood centers’ experience with mass-scale red cell genotyping and hospital access to the information in the supply chain.
