Dr. Akia Sheema Blandon began working in the healthcare industry in 1993 as a Nurse Attendant in Long Island, New York while pursuing her nursing license. She persevered and excelled in nursing while raising her five amazing children! Akia is an Adult Geriatric Nurse Practitioner and is a Doctor of Nursing Practice. She is the VP of Clinical services at a very large facility in NYC. Akia also works as an NP for MetroUrgi Care, providing urgent and primary care throughout the tri-state area. She also serves as an Adjunct professor at Helene Fuld College of Nursing since 2014. Akia is the President of Tau Chi Chapter Inc. of Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. who’s mission is Service for Humanity. She is also the Sorority's Regional Meeting Coordinator for the Northeast region, responsible for planning annual conference, from contract negotiations to execution for approximately 400 nurses. She is a Small Group Leader at Christ Church in Rockaway, New Jersey. Twice a month, Akia hosts a group of women, teaching about the Christian faith. In 2017, Akia founded Pearls of Promise, a Non-for-Profit organization. Its mission is to empower women and girls who have experienced life's most devastating circumstances – including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. Currently, Pearls of Promise is contributing to a Girls Home in Jamaica with 16 girls from age 13-18. Pearls of Promise hosts empowerment days, educational sessions, and provides financial support several times each year. Akia's many professional, educational, and community pursuits has not interfered with her balanced personal life. Akia is the proud single mother of five amazing children. She goes to the gym five days a week and has lost over 80 pounds in the past three years. Akia lives a plant-based lifestyle and has inspired several of her colleagues and friends to participate in this pursuit of wellness alongside her.
