For direct service staff who help people experiencing homelessness, concretely measuring progress toward our shared goal of "ending homelessness" can be a struggle to design and implement. They are left with general descriptions of helping "more" and/or "faster." Using Community Services to determine who is entering the homelessness system, and how they are being engaged – in real-time, is an important first step. This session will explore several different methods of how communities can determine who is being prioritized, and under which circumstances, beyond mere assessment scores, and chronic homelessness determination. This includes recommendations on how to deploy resources to better coordinate entry; passage through; and exit into housing with supports. Shelter diversion plays an important part, as does a readily accessible, but simple-to-understand, “by-name” list of people at various stages throughout the process.
