This presentation focuses on the journey of 3 stand-alone IRFs’ abilities to provide the safest patient environment during the COVID-19 pandemic and the preparation needed, environmental controls as well as strict adherence to evidenced based infection control practices and guidelines. As cases surged, Broward and Miami-Dade County found itself as the epicenter of the pandemic and the focus of the nation in soaring cases. Our journey to zero Covid-19 HAI’s included challenging the ever-changing guidance given by different regulatory authorities to develop a comprehensive system approach to educating and enforcing the critical steps needed to enhance the usual methods of transmission-based precautions. The audience will leave with an understanding of the tools and resources to guide infection control strategies needed for success, the ability to apply effective root cause analysis of any deviations from the established processes and the knowledge to develop training and competencies to provide consistent infection prevention.
